Hurricane Katrina was a category 3 storm with winds reaching speeds as high as 120 miles per hours that made landfall on Florida and Lousiana in August 2005, causing catastrophic damage, particularly in the city of New Orleans and the surrounding areas. Katrina was the costliest and one of the five deadliest hurricanes to ever strike the United States.

Hurricane Harvey was a category 4 hurricane that hit Texas on August 25, 2017. According to the National Hurricane Center, Harvey ranks as the second-most costly hurricane to hit the U.S. mainland since 1900.

Hurricane Maria was a deadly category 5 hurricane that devastated Dominica, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico in September 2017. This hurricane hit Puerto Rico with 155-mph winds, making it the strongest hurricane to hit Puerto Rico in more than 80 years.

Hurricane Sandy also called Superstorm Sandy made landfall in the United States on October 29, 2012.  Sandy was the deadliest hurricane of 2012 and one of the most destructive hurricanes in history to hit the United States.

5. Hurricane Irma

Hurricane Irma was the strongest hurricane in the Atlantic in terms of maximum sustained winds since Wilma. Irma made its first U.S. landfall on Florida, around 9 a.m. on September 10 as a category 4 hurricane and is the fifth-most costliest hurricane to hit the mainland United States.
